Have you read "Jesus Land" by Julia Scheeres?

Julia Scheeres grew up near Lafayette, Indiana in the late seventies with strict Christian fundamentalist parents and two adopted African American brothers. In this unflinching memoir, she exposes the racism she and her brothers experienced growing up and the sexual abuse she experienced within the home. As a teenager, Julia finds life at home intolerable and she runs away. She is picked up by the police and returned to her family. her unsympathetic parents send her to a strict Christian boarding school in the Dominican Republic that is more of a prison than a school. It is there that she faces her greatest challenges. (ILF Annotated Book List)
